“PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS DO NOT HAVE ANY SAFE SPACE GO”
May 29, 2024
Addressing the parliament, Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly described the scenes from Rafah as « horrific » and « heartbreaking ». She urged for an “immediate ceasefire,” stating that « the killing of innocent civilians is completely unacceptable. »
Many world leaders and senior officials have expressed outrage following Israel’s attack on a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Sunday.
The death toll from the attack has now risen to 45, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The area which was designated by Israel as a « safe zone,” has sheltered thousands of displaced Palestinians since Israel’s invasion of Rafah two weeks ago.
We need STRONGER STATEMENTS!! Not just a ceasefire! WE NEED SANCTIONS! WE NEED CUTTING DIPLOMATIC TIES! WE NEED REAL PRESSURE ON ISRAEL OR ELSE IT WON’T RESPOND!!

English Script:
Melanie Joly: Even in times of wars, there are rules and the images coming out of Rafah are horrific, heartbreaking. Our position has been clear in Rafah and we’ve been saying it now for weeks. Palestinian civilians do not have any safe space to go. The killing of innocent civilians is completely unacceptable and the decisions of the International Court of Justice are binding. The level of human suffering is catastrophic, and that’s why Mr. Speaker, we need an immediate ceasefire.
