Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Sunday that Israel is creating a “deadlock” in negotiations with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza with a “constant introduction of new excuses”.
He asked the international community to put “pressure” on Israel, before explaining that Israel sees Hamas’ acceptance of the conditions for the ceasefire deal as “weakness and as surrender” and that such a view is “an extremely dangerous understanding”.
Fidan made the comments during a press conference with his Saudi counterpart,, Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, held in Istanbul.

Hakan Fida: Hamas’s positive response to the latest proposals was not accepted by Israel and the constant introduction of new excuses has put the negotiating parties in a difficult situation and created a serious deadlock regarding the ceasefire. From here, I appeal to the world’s public opinion, Israel needs to be put under pressure. The fact that Hamas has accepted these conditions is unfortunately observed by Israel as weakness and as surrender. We are looking for ways to move forward. This is an extremely dangerous understanding. An extremely dangerous strategic calculation, and if it continues, there will be more blood, more drama and more tears. It will throw this region into even a greater fire.
