“INFINITE TRAUMA”: British Psychotherapist Gwyn Daniel Warns Gaza’s Children Face Lifelong Psychological Scars
November 2, 2025
“INFINITE TRAUMA.”
Two words that can barely hold the weight of Gaza’s children.
British psychotherapist Gwyn Daniel calls it what it is
a wound so deep it may never heal.
Amid the rubble and the sirens,
children draw pictures of drones instead of dreams.
Their laughter replaced by the hum of fear.
Their innocence buried beneath broken concrete and silence.
This is not just trauma
it’s a lifetime sentence for a crime they never committed.

Gwyn Daniel: This genocide is having effects on the population, that we simply cannot calculate because it is of such an immensity. There’s so many levels at which people are traumatized. There’s very little that protects civilians from the trauma. The world has abandoned the people of Gaza. I work with one of them, the Palestine Trauma Center. We know that the intention is to destroy Gaza. We know that the intention is to punish and take vengeance on the people of Gaza. Children are not, in that terrible phrase, collateral damage. Children are the victims, particularly of starvation and malnutrition in the settler colonial society. Children are not intended to have a future on their own land. People, working groups, because collective solidarity is what is needed. We put pressure on our mental health institutions to make statements condemning this genocide. So trauma recovery depends on having a safe space, to be safe to be believed, to have witnesses believing your experience. We have to understand mental health recovery in the context of a much wider political solution.
