Middle East Eye: Israeli Soldiers Threaten Photojournalist Reporting From South Lebanon
December 30, 2025
JOURNALISM UNDER FIRE. LITERALLY.
While reporting from Houla, South Lebanon, photojournalist Courtney Bonneau was threatened by Israeli soldiers, warned over loudspeakers, and confronted as tanks advanced toward her position. This wasn’t a battlefield it was reporting. And the message was clear: document the truth and you become the target.
When cameras are treated as weapons and journalists as enemies, it tells you everything about what’s being hidden.

English Script:
Courtney Bonneau: Okay, so I’m in front of the illegal Houla base and they are screaming at me from the base. They’re screaming in Hebrew and Arabic and English. They’re telling us it’s danger, we need to get away. This is new, this hasn’t happened before. So it seems maybe like they got new loudspeakers. They’re definitely doing new fortifications. And the wall is significantly higher since the last time that I was here, on November 30th. Their Merkava is coming out.
