Film Director Kaouther Ben Hania Rejects Berlin Prize Amid Controversy
February 20, 2026
She didn’t just refuse an award.
She refused complicity.
Kaouther Ben Hania, director of The Voice of Hind Rajab, rejected the Berlin Peace Award after learning an Israeli IDF soldier was also being honored.
On stage, she said:
“Tonight, in Berlin, there are people who gave political cover to that genocide.”
She reminded the audience that peace without accountability is performance.
That justice cannot coexist with image-laundering.
That Hind Rajab’s killing — and the killing of her family and the paramedics who tried to save her is not an “exception,” but part of a system.
“Peace is not a perfume sprayed over violence so power can feel refined.”
So she left the award behind.
Because without accountability, there is no peace.
GOD BLESS HER!
