Lebanon PM Nawaf Salam: “We Will Not Be Intimidated by Hezbollah” Amid Israel Talks
April 22, 2026
“WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED.”
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam just made it clear from Paris: The Lebanese government will NOT be intimidated by Hezbollah as it moves forward with direct talks to end the Israeli occupation. For the first time in years, we are seeing the State attempt to reclaim its role as the sole decision-maker for war and peace.
We are facing a humanitarian catastrophe that needs €500 million just to keep people alive for the next six months. We cannot afford to be intimidated into silence while our sovereignty is shredded by Israeli violations and internal division.
A bold statement in a country where every word carries weight… and every decision can shift the balance.
Because this isn’t just about negotiations. It’s about who speaks for Lebanon and who holds the power to decide its future.
Diplomacy is the only way to ensure the COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL of Israeli forces and the safe return of our displaced brothers and sisters. It’s time to put the Lebanese flag above every other interest. 🇱🇧

Nawaf Salam: You know that the President of the Lebanese Republic has called for the opening of direct negotiations with Israel, an initiative I fully support in the name of the sovereignty of the Lebanese state in making decisions regarding war and peace. We are pursuing this path, convinced that diplomacy is not a sign of weakness, but a responsible act so as to leave no avenue unexplored in restoring my country’s sovereignty and protecting its people. These negotiations promise to be demanding and require the active support of all our friends and partners. That said, we’re not seeking a confrontation with Hezbollah. On the contrary, I’d prefer to avoid a confrontation with Hezbollah, but believe me, we won’t be intimidated. Not by Hezbollah, and certainly not by those who are blowing the hot and cold air of civil war.
