Journalist Amal Khalil Killed in Southern Lebanon Strike — Reports Point to Israeli Attack
April 23, 2026
The press vest is no longer a shield.
A devastating strike by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon has claimed the life of journalist Amal Khalil and seriously injured her colleague Zeinab Faraj.
According to reports from Al Akhbar News, the reporters had sought cover following an initial attack in the area. Two hours later, while they remained in hiding, the location was targeted again. These repeated strikes prevented paramedics and rescue teams from reaching the scene for hours, leaving the victims trapped without medical assistance.
International law mandates the protection of journalists, yet the targeting of locations where reporters are sheltering
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has officially condemned the incident, stating that the “targeting of journalists and the obstruction of relief efforts constitute described war crimes.” Lebanese President Joseph Aoun moved to mobilize the Red Cross and Lebanese Army to coordinate a rescue, but efforts were delayed for hours as Israeli forces reportedly fired sound grenades and live ammunition at arriving ambulances.
Reporting the truth should not be a death sentence. KHALAS.
Slide and share the truth.

Israel targeted two Lebanese journalists in a double-tap attack on Wednesday, which killed Amal Khalil and severely injured Zeinab Faraj. The journalists were in southern at-tiri village to report on an earlier Israeli strike that killed two people. The Lebanese health ministry says Israel “pursued” the journalists by striking them when they rushed to shelter. Rescue workers couldn’t reach the site because Israel struck the roads. The Lebanese Red Cross eventually took Zeinab in an ambulance with severe head injury. They could not find Amal under the rubber. The Israeli army fired a stun grenade and shot bullets at the ambulance. Hours passed before paramedics could safely return to the scene and find Amal’s body.
Heidi Pett: Amal is a well-known and respected journalist here in Lebanon. She had actually received direct threats during the last war from an Israeli phone number on WhatsApp asking her to cease her reporting. In fact, telling her that she should leave Lebanon if she wanted her head to remain on her shoulders.
Amal’s body arrived in her village, Al-Bissariya as people gathered and threw roses at the ambulance. Lebanon’s gov’t has condemned the attack as a serious breach of international law.
Courtney Bonneauimages: Hi, I’m reporting to you from Beirut.I can’t believe I have to make another video to announce the death of a colleague and a friend of mine, Amal Khalil, who was a correspondent for Al Akhbar and one of the loudest voices of truth here in Lebanon, was executed by the Israeli army in a targeted air strike in the town of Al Tyri after a drone strike happened in front of her. She was with another colleague and they went to seek shelter inside of a house. Two men were killed in that drone strike and when Amal and Zeinab went to seek shelter in this house, she was able to reach out to some of the colleagues to let them know where she was. So everyone was aware, the Red Cross, UNIFIL, and people in the government knew that she was there and the Israeli army prevented the Red Cross from reaching them with live ammunition and stun grenades. And eventually they targeted the house where they had been seeking shelter. And I want you to make no mistake about this. This was a blatant murder. This was a targeted assassination. And the Israeli army committed multiple flagrant war crimes this afternoon during this incident.
