“‘Boycott Met Gala’ Message Projected on Jeff Bezos’s NYC Penthouse by Worker Activists”
May 5, 2026
WATCH: Activists are calling out Amazon and its founder Jeff Bezos ahead of the Met Gala, criticizing the company’s involvement in government technology contracts.
At the center of the criticism is Project Nimbus, a cloud computing deal between Amazon, Google, and the Israeli government. Rights groups have raised concerns that such technology could be used in surveillance, though Amazon has not confirmed involvement in targeting civilians.
Labor organizer Chris Smalls and other activists have also criticized Amazon’s broader ties to U.S. government agencies, including past contracts with immigration authorities.
In a viral message, a 72-year-old Amazon worker identified as Mary from North Carolina criticized Bezos ahead of the event, as protests continue over wealth inequality and corporate power.
Amazon has previously stated that its cloud services are designed for general government and commercial use and comply with applicable laws.
