CANNES JURY MEMBER SLAMS HOLLYWOOD FOR BLACKLISTING STARS WHO SPOKE OUT AGAINST THE MURDER OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN GAZA.
The glitz and glamour of the 79th Cannes Film Festival just got hit with a heavy dose of reality. At an official jury press conference on May 12, 2026, award-winning screenwriter and jury member Paul Laverty went scorched earth on the American film industry, accusing major studios of cowardice and systematic censorship.
Pointing to the irony of the festival’s official poster—which features Susan Sarandon—Laverty blasted Hollywood for celebrating an actress’s image while simultaneously exiling her and others for their humanitarian principles.
Laverty specifically named Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, and Mark Ruffalo as victims of a modern-day blacklist for their opposition to the “murder of women and children in Gaza”.
The message from Cannes is loud and clear: You can try to freeze their bank accounts and cancel their contracts, but you cannot blacklist the truth. Cinema doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and the world is done with the silent status quo.
