Ecocide. It is a word usually reserved for the most extreme, deliberate acts of environmental destruction, the kind that wipes out entire ecosystems and makes land uninhabitable for generations.
In my latest episode of Reel Talk, I sat down with former Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan Tracy Chamoun, one of the most unsparing political voices in the Lebanese world, and asked her why she has been using that word to describe what Israel is doing to the land, the farms, the rivers, and the ancient olive groves of South Lebanon.
Since Israel relaunched its military campaign against Lebanon in March 2026, more than 56,000 hectares of farmland have been destroyed, 1.8 million livestock killed, and 29,000 beehives demolished.
