U.S. Court Rules Criticism of Israel, Zionism and Gaza War Is Not Proof of Antisemitic Intent

A federal court has delivered a major victory for free speech and Palestinian advocacy, rejecting the claim that criticism of Israel, opposition to Zionism or support for Palestinian rights can be used as evidence of antisemitic intent.
The ruling came after The People’s Forum was accused of participating in an alleged “antisemitic conspiracy” for condemning Israel’s assault on Gaza, supporting student encampments and calling for divestment from institutions linked to the war.
The court disagreed.
In doing so, it rejected one of the most frequently used arguments against Palestine solidarity activists: that criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic.
For years, activists, students, academics and journalists have argued that accusations of antisemitism are too often used to silence conversations about Palestinian suffering, Israeli military actions and the realities of occupation.
This ruling sends a different message.
Criticising a government is not the same as attacking a people.
Supporting Palestinian rights is not hate.
Demanding an end to war, occupation and civilian suffering is not hate.
The decision comes as Palestinians in Gaza continue to face bombardment, displacement, hunger and one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history.
For many supporters of Palestine, this ruling is about more than a court case.
It is about protecting the right to speak about Gaza.
The right to protest.
The right to demand accountability.
And the right of Palestinians to have their voices heard without those voices being automatically dismissed or smeared.
For many, this is not only a victory for free speech.
It is a victory for every Palestinian whose story deserves to be told.
