Just 24 Hours After U.S.-Iran Deal, Israeli Leaders Signal More Destruction in Lebanon

Less than 24 hours after a U.S.-Iran agreement aimed at ending regional hostilities, leading Israeli politicians were already making it clear that Lebanon remains in their sights.
While the deal is expected to reduce tensions across the region, figures including Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Bezalel Smotrich and Yair Golan voiced fierce opposition, with some arguing the agreement is a defeat for Israel and insisting military operations must continue.
“A bad agreement for Israel.”
Others went even further, calling for continued attacks and escalation despite growing international pressure for de-escalation.

After months of destruction, displacement and loss of civilian life, hopes for peace are once again colliding with threats of further violence.
Lebanon is still being threatened.
And some Israeli politicians still want more war.

Benjamin Netanyahu: We have established deep security zones around the State of Israel. We did this in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Syria. There, by the way, we eliminated all the weapons of Assad’s army, which was a central link in the axis of evil. And I want to be clear: we will remain in the security zones as long as required to protect our country.
Itamar Ben Gvir: We must act with a clear and uncompromising conscience. The security of the citizens of the State of Israel is above all. A sovereign state is not a contractor for any superpower. It is not bound by agreements that put an end to its ability to protect its people. We must continue to demolish the houses in southern Lebanon. We must continue to eliminate Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. We love President Trump, but we do not accept the agreement he signed and we must continue on our way.
Bezlael Smotrich: The agreement with Iran is a bad agreement for Israel and the entire free world. Iran must not have nuclear weapons. We must not come to terms with a reality in which the extreme regime in Tehran continues to advance toward this goal.
Yair Golan: With a stroke of pen, the tremendous military achievements of our pilots in the skies of Iran and the heroism of our fighters on the soil of Lebanon were erased. All this while Netanyahu simply stands aside as a criminal defendant, as weak, as ill, as isolated and ineffective person.
