WHEN DOCTORS STOP SPEAKING, WHO DEFENDS THE PATIENTS?
More than 1,150 health professionals and medical organisations have signed a petition calling for the suspension of the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) from the World Medical Association, accusing it of failing to uphold basic medical ethics during Israel’s war on Gaza.
The campaign, backed by the People’s Health Movement, Doctors for Gaza, and the Health Advisory Council of Jewish Voice for Peace, argues that medical organisations cannot remain silent while hospitals are attacked, healthcare workers are killed and an entire healthcare system is pushed toward collapse.
Doctors are expected to defend life.
To protect patients.
To speak out when healthcare is under attack.
As Gaza’s hospitals struggle under relentless pressure and healthcare workers continue to pay the price of war, the call from medical professionals is growing louder:
Medical neutrality means nothing if it only applies in times of comfort.
And silence, they argue, is not neutrality.
It is complicity.
