Israel’s Post-Oct. 2023 Land Expansion in Palestine Lebanon and Syria Fuels Greater Israel Debate
June 25, 2026
Since October 2023, while the world’s attention has been focused on the devastation in Gaza, Israel has quietly expanded its control over territory across Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, triggering growing fears that a much larger territorial project is unfolding before our eyes.
Israel has seized thousands of square kilometres of land during its military campaigns and incursions, extending its footprint not only in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, but also in southern Lebanon and Syrian territory.
History has shown that occupations often begin as “”temporary.””
Then the checkpoints arrive.
Then the military zones.
Then the settlements. And eventually the occupation becomes permanent.
In southern Lebanon, Israeli forces have occupied strategic areas and established military positions beyond internationally recognized boundaries.
In Syria, Israel has deepened its presence beyond the occupied Golan Heights, taking advantage of regional instability to strengthen its control over additional land.
More land under Israeli control.
Less land for the people who already lived there.
And while governments issue statements and diplomats hold meetings, facts are being created on the ground every single day.
Because territory seized during war has a habit of becoming tomorrow’s “”new normal.””
And once the map is redrawn, history shows it is incredibly difficult to redraw it back.
