Erica Nanton Says Palestine Is a Global Justice Issue Not Just a Middle East Conflict
July 12, 2026
“White supremacy has infiltrated the Black community with a narrative that Palestine doesn’t got nothing to do with us. And that’s a lie from the pit of hell.”
Powerful words from community organizer Erica Nanton, speaking out after a crucial legislative hearing on Illinois House Bill 2723. The new bill aims to completely repeal a repressive 2015 anti-BDS law signed by former Governor Bruce Rauner.
That old 2015 law essentially holds state pensions and companies hostage—making it illegal for public funds to invest in any business that chooses to boycott Israel, locking up hundreds of millions of dollars to protect foreign military interests.
Nanton didn’t hold back, connecting the dots between the heavy police repression felt on the South Side of Chicago and the ongoing genocide in Palestine. The message is clear: the same systems of state violence, surveillance, and corporate-backed oppression that target Black neighborhoods at home are directly tied to the forces funding violence abroad.
From Chicago to Gaza, the demand is the same: dignity, justice, and the right to live free from violence and oppression.
History has shown that movements for justice grow stronger when they stand together not when they’re divided.
Thank you, Erica Nanton, for speaking with courage and reminding the world that solidarity has no borders.
Share.
