Irish Actor Gerard McCarthy Pulls Out of West End Show Over Pro-Israel Stance
September 5, 2026Northern Irish actor Gerard McCarthy (The Fall, Call the Midwife) has withdrawn from the London West End production of Right Before I Go at Soho Theatre, refusing to share a platform or promote the play following the casting of outspoken pro-Israel actress Maureen Lipman.
In a principled statement published by @paltimesnews , McCarthy explained that while he did not demand Lipman’s removal, he refused to use his personal career platform to promote someone whose public record includes calling pro-Palestine marches “close to fascism” and demanding shame for artists opposing the genocide in Gaza.
McCarthy made it clear: “I simply chose not to use my own platform to promote someone whose political views are at odds with my own.” 🇵🇸
PRINCIPLES MATTER. NO PLATFORM FOR APARTHEID SUPPORTERS.
