New York Rabbi Urges American Jews to Speak Out Over Gaza

In a powerful D’var Torah address, Rabbi Rolando “Roly” Matalon of Manhattan’s prominent B’nai Jeshurun synagogue called on American Jewish communities to shatter decades of silence and confront the political extremism driving state military policy in Israel.
Rabbi Matalon challenged the diaspora’s long-standing deference, stating: “We, American Jews, are the outsiders. We were supposed to see things from a distance that the insiders… either did not see or did not want to see. We were supposed to see, we saw, but we said nothing… Maybe it’s time we start speaking up!”
Moral courage means confronting state atrocities, not protecting them with unconditional silence.
