Africa Is 14 Times Bigger Than Greenland: Why Maps Get Africa’s Size Wrong

The UN just voted 164–1 to adopt a map that shows the world as it actually is.
Only one country fought to keep the version where Greenland looks the same size as Africa (it’s not, Africa is 14x bigger). Only one country called correcting 400 years of distortion a “radical ideological project.”
Guess who.
Maps aren’t neutral. They’re the first lesson every kid gets in what counts as big, central, important — and what gets shrunk to the margins. For 400 years, the world map we all grew up with quietly told us whose land mattered more.
Now 164 nations voted to fix that. One didn’t. As South African commentator and host Dan Corder (@dancorderonair ) points out, only ONE single country on Earth voted against using an accurate map: The United States of America.
Truth shouldn’t be optional. Facts shouldn’t need a vote. But when they do — watch closely who shows up for the old, comfortable lie.

Finally, the United Nations has voted to start using a map which actually represents how big countries in the world are. Because I don’t know if you know this, but the map that we’ve all been raised on and using for over 400 years is wildly inaccurate. Only one country in the whole world voted to keep the old inaccurate map, and to reject the modern new equal Earth projection map, which actually depicts countries size accurately relative to each other. And I wonder if you can guess what country in the whole world voted for the inaccurate, non factual take on how the world is laid out? Maybe a country that thinks that Greenland is about the same size as Africa and therefore for that reason maybe wants to take it for themselves, because in our world some might call it the real one. Greenland is 14 times smaller than Africa, but not on this old map. In fact, on this old map, Europe is made to look a lot bigger than it really is relative to Africa. Greenland looks colossal. Whereas this is actually how the world is meaningfully laid out than now voted for and accepted equal Earth projection. And yes, inevitably, the one country that voted against this motion was the United States of America. If you got it right in the comments before I told you the answer, well well done. No prizes though. It was literally too obvious. I can’t give you a prize for such an easy answer.
