Von der Leyen Calls Israeli Settlement Expansion ‘Unacceptable’ Amid Growing International Pressure

“The Israeli government’s decision to advance the illegal E1 settlement projects is unacceptable,” Von Der Leyen said this week. Fine words. Same words she used a year ago. In the twelve months since, almost none of her own promised measures have actually been adopted.
Meanwhile: oranges, dates, olive oil, mangoes — grown on stolen land, sold on European shelves, funding the settlement economy every single day this drags on. Over 100 MEPs signed an urgent letter demanding action. A dozen EU nations support a full ban. Even the EU’s own legal services confirmed it doesn’t need unanimous approval to move.
And still, no legislative proposal. Critics have named her directly as the principal block standing in the way — not member state gridlock, her.
“It pains me to say these words” doesn’t feed a single family in the West Bank. A ban would.
Enough with painful confessions. Table the ban.
