Israeli Fans Chant “IDF” After 3-0 Defeat to Ireland as Match Sparks Controversy
September 30, 2026
HARRY (champagne_socialist_22), DIGITAL CREATOR & “CHAMPAGNE SOCIALIST,” IS CALLING OUT THE DOUBLE STANDARD.
RUSSIA WAS BANNED. ISRAEL IS STILL PLAYING. WHY?
After Ireland’s 3–0 victory over Israel, Harry highlighted what he sees as a glaring contradiction in European football: UEFA and FIFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from their competitions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while Israel continues to participate despite the ongoing international controversy surrounding its military actions in Gaza. UEFA’s suspension of Russia remains in place, while Ireland and Israel are currently competing in the Nations League.
And the contrast became even harder to ignore this weekend.
Ireland’s players wore black armbands, refused the traditional pre-match handshake and bowed their heads during Israel’s national anthem in a protest connected to the Gaza conflict.
After Ireland’s 3–0 win, Israeli supporters were filmed chanting slogans invoking the Israeli military. Separately, allegations of racist chanting targeting Ireland’s Adam Idah were reported; UEFA said it would not investigate because the incident was not explicitly reported as racism to officials during the match.
IF FOOTBALL CAN TAKE A POLITICAL STAND AGAINST RUSSIA, WHY DOES THAT PRINCIPLE SUDDENLY DISAPPEAR WHEN IT COMES TO ISRAEL?
SAME SPORT.
SAME GOVERNING BODIES.
TWO VERY DIFFERENT STANDARDS.
And Palestine is still waiting for the same outrage, accountability and consistency.
FREE PALESTINE.

English Script:
Harry: Okay, so you might have seen that Ireland beat Israel three zero in the Nations League. And this is how the Israeli fans in the stadium reacted to that.
Israeli fans: Maybe the football Irish team beat us on the football field, but they will never ever break the Israeli spirit. You understand? So yes, we lose some football. Yes. But you know where we don’t lose the IDF, we always win. IDF, IDF, IDF.
Harry: Well, that’s a completely normal reaction to losing a football match. Yeah, we can’t play for toffee, but we’re great at war crimes. Make of that what you will. Same people, by the way, who don’t want politics bought into football matches that they play in. And yet, at the first opportunity bring up their military, who, much like their national football team, are incapable of beating opponents capable of fighting back.
It is a complete and utter disgrace that Israel is still allowed to compete in sporting events despite the horrific actions that they are committing against the Palestinian people. If Russia is not allowed to compete in sporting events, then why is Israel being allowed to? We are very lucky that Israel, by their own footballing merits, are terrible, and that’s why they can’t get out of their qualifying groups or over the World Cup or Euros. But that shouldn’t matter. They shouldn’t be allowed to compete. If Russia is not allowed to compete, then neither should Israel. And the fact that there is that double standard presence is incredibly telling indeed.
