19-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Killed in Israeli Strike While Hanging Laundry in Gaza
October 3, 2026
SHE WAS HANGING LAUNDRY. SHE WAS SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT. SHE NEVER CAME BACK INSIDE.
Amal Al-Ajla was 19. She stood on the rooftop of her family’s home in Gaza City’s Al-Tuffah neighborhood, doing something as small and human as hanging washed clothes out to dry, her husband beside her. An Israeli drone fired two missiles at that rooftop. She was killed instantly, along with her unborn child. Her husband was left critically wounded.
Palestinian journalist Wissam Nassar wrote: she hung the clothes on what remained of their home. Her blood fell, leaving a farewell imprint on the clothesline.
She had seven more months until she would have held her baby. Instead, a roof where a family hoped to build a life became the place where two lives ended at once.
This is what “ongoing” looks like, long after the headlines stopped calling it urgent. A mother and her child, gone, for the crime of doing laundry.
Say her name. Amal Al-Ajla.
