Democracy Perception Index Ranks Israel as World’s Most Disliked Country

Israel has been ranked the most negatively perceived country in the world, followed by North Korea and Afghanistan, according to the 2026 Democracy Perception Index, a report published in May that has recently gained renewed attention online.
The report’s global country perceptions ranking assessed 129 countries and three international organisations, drawing on responses from 94,000 people across 98 countries. Iran and the United States also featured among the five most negatively perceived countries, while Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Sweden and Italy received the most positive assessments.
