Who Controls Mexico’s Water? Israel Water Deal Sparks Nationwide Protests and U.S. Midterm Debate
October 20, 2026Via @juan.the.mochilero : Juan Maya, a Mexico-based creator, on a water deal that has Mexicans in the streets.
DROUGHT AT HOME. A DEAL WITH ISRAEL ON THE WATER. NO PAPERWORK.
Chihuahua is running low on water. And its state government went looking for help from Israel, signing a deal with MASHAV, the Israeli foreign ministry’s development agency, that lets Israeli private companies take part in the state’s water projects. It runs until 2027.
Critics say the state never registered the agreement with Mexico’s foreign ministry, as the law requires. They ask why a state in a water emergency would let private companies near a public resource, and whether it’s a step toward privatization. The government says it’s just a technology swap, and denies it gives away any rights over the water.
Mexicans didn’t buy it. They marched in at least 14 states in August, linking the secret-looking deal to Mexico’s ties with a country accused of genocide in Gaza.
Juan’s warning: when governments give outsiders a hand on the tap, ordinary people pay the price. “Lo que pasa en Gaza llega a casa.”
Then he points to the US midterms. In California’s 29th District, Angélica Dueñas is challenging Rep. Luz Rivas. Juan says Dueñas takes no AIPAC money and will oppose US military aid to Israel, while Rivas has taken AIPAC-linked contributions. His message: look at who funds your representative before you vote for them.
Water is life. Ask who’s holding it.

Israel is already inserting itself into Mexico’s water system and Mexicans need to wake up. Chihuahua signed a water agreement with my shop in the Agency of Israel’s Government. Officials say it’s about technology, not privatization. But Mexican activists are protesting, raising fears about foreign influence and the future of Mexico’s water. Because when people lose water, farmland and ability to survive, displacement follows. And that’s the fear being raised. Can Mexican families be pushed out while foreign interests gain more influence over the resources they leave behind? Look at Gaza. Different circumstances but lo que pasa en Gaza, llega a casa. In California’s 29th district, Angelica Duenas is challenging congresswoman Luz Rivas. Duenas says, I don’t take AIPAC money and I will oppose U.S. military aid to Israel. My opponent Rivas, on the other hand, has taken contributions from AIPAC. So look at the candidates, look at their records and decide who will represent your priorities. Support progressives, not moderate Democrats.
