Netanyahu’s “Hexagon Alliance” Map Fuels Debate Over Israel-UAE Strategy in the Horn of Africa
October 25, 2026NETANYAHU’S MAP: THE “ISRAEL-UAE HEXAGON ALLIANCE”
In the final days before Israel’s October 27 elections, Netanyahu held his first in-person security briefing since October 7, 2023, and brought a map.
It’s titled “geopolitical alliances in the Middle East.” One bloc is marked in blue as the “Israel-UAE Hexagon Alliance.” In lighter blue are areas the two consider “friendly,” including Greece, Ethiopia and Somaliland.
Decolonize Sudan says the map shows something bigger: a joint Israel-UAE strategy to take control of the Horn of Africa. According to the group, the map also shades Puntland and the parts of Sudan held by the UAE-linked RSF militia as “friendly” territory.
Their argument: control of the Horn is the key to the “endless pillaging” of Africa, which Israel and the UAE need to sustain what the group calls their genocidal projects.
The UAE denies arming the RSF, and Israel hasn’t commented on Decolonize Sudan’s reading of the map. Analysts quoted by Newsweek say Netanyahu’s map reflects how isolated Israel has become, and that the “hexagon” is better understood as branding for a patchwork of existing relationships than a formal alliance.
But Sudanese advocates have warned about this for years. A militia accused of genocide in Darfur, a state that backs it, and a map that treats the territory as a friend.
Shame on a government that talks about security and peace while it courts the same forces that are destroying Sudan. Shame on every leader sketching alliances on a map while civilians in Sudan, Gaza, Congo and Tigray are starved and bombed.
Our struggles are connected. And when Sudan is cut, the world bleeds.
