Macklemore Says “Free Palestine” Has Become More Controversial Than the Suffering Behind It
October 27, 2026
“FREE PALESTINE”:
TWO WORDS THEY’D RATHER SILENCE THAN CONFRONT
“Those two words are so threatening to some people that we’d rather silence those two words than confront what they actually mean.”
That’s Macklemore on opening night of his “Free Palestine” tour in Dublin on Monday, calling for unity just weeks after he was removed from Ed Sheeran’s tour over his pro-Palestine remarks.
What happened: Macklemore opened for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in September and called for a “Free Palestine.” Soon after, he was dropped from the tour. He says Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, called Sheeran and said the stadium wouldn’t host the show unless he went. Sheeran says the decision was the promoter’s, not his.
Macklemore’s answer wasn’t to go quiet. He announced his own tour, with dates in Dublin, Paris and London, and said proceeds will support humanitarian groups helping Palestinians, including Anera, HEAL Palestine, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and UNRWA USA. He’s also said he’ll donate the $1 million he earned from Sheeran’s tour to Palestinian aid organizations.
When two words become more controversial than the suffering behind them, the problem isn’t the words.
Macklemore got dropped for saying them. He turned the loss into a tour, and a fundraiser.
That’s how you answer being silenced.

English Script:
Macklemore: Six weeks ago. It was two words. Two words is all that it took. Two words that are rooted in love and liberation. Not against anybody. Not divisive. Not a call for hatred, but a call to recognize our shared humanity. Free Palestine. The same thing that I want for all of us. Freedom. Dignity. The right to exist without fear. Being able to raise our children in the homes that we grew up in. Not having to prove our humanity to the rest of the world. And yet those words. Those two words. right? Those two words are so threatening to some people. They will rather silence those two words that confront what they actually mean. Because freedom. Because freedom that requires another person’s oppression is not freedom at all. While the world is the base of words and seeing the videos, we see the footage. We see parents pulling their children out of the rubble, families erased. Devastation beyond our imagination. And somehow those words have become more controversial than the suffering that made them necessary.
