Aida Touma-Suleiman – Arab Knesset member evicted to silence her.

Member of the Knesset Aida Touma-Suleiman says she has been suspended by the Knesset ethics committee for two months for criticising the actions of the Israeli army in Gaza. She vowed to continue speaking out on her platforms despite the suspension.

“In the only “democracy” in the Middle East a parliamentarian who is representing almost 20% of the citizens of Israel is not allowed to speak out.”

This reflects the ongoing tensions within Israel and the divisions among the people and the political leaders caused by the Netanyahu’s right-wing government to act with such impunity in its attempt to crush not only the militant group Hamas, but more clearly the Palestinian people so as to permanently remove them from the Occupied Territories and make way for Israel full annexation of Palestinian lands.

The world must not allow this injustice to happen. It is astounding that in the 21st century such barbarism is still allowed to continue and world leaders stand idly by watching International humanitarian law and the law of war completely disrespected by the State of Israel.

The State of Israel should have its position at the United Nations revoked and a full blockade and sanctions imposed to demonstrate the will of the billions of people around th world who oppose their treatment and actions against the Palestinians.

English Script:

(Aida) I left the Knesset 2 hours ago, and I won’t be for two months able to express my feelings, my opinions in the plenary or in the committees, because the Ethics Committee in the Knesset decided to prevent me. In the only democracy in the Middle East, a parliamentarian who is representing almost 20% of the citizens of Israel is not allowed to speak out.

And why is that? Because I raised questions about the war, because I am against, first of all, the war and hurting civilians from both sides. If you remember well, two weeks ago when I protested and spoke about the children from two sides of the border here in Israel and in Gaza I was told in that same parliament that there is no equality, there is not symmetry between the children and the children of Gaza brought it on themselves.

So it looks like this Ethics Committee decided that either I speak exactly what they want me to speak, either I will be silenced. The voice, anti-war voice is going to be silenced now for two months. I promise you, my values, my opinions will be heard. Nobody can silence me and I will keep and continue to struggle for peace.
