Texas’s Board of Education just voted to require public school students to learn Israel’s 1948 founding as the “ancestral homeland of the Jewish people” — a specific, mandated phrase, locked into the curriculum, decided by an 8-4 vote of people most of these kids will never meet.
Here’s what’s wild: the same state that’s still fighting over whether to teach the actual history of slavery, that fast-tracked a Bible curriculum into public schools, found unanimous urgency for this one. Funny how some history gets “too controversial” and other history gets legislated into law with a straight face.
Kids in Texas will grow up certain about one country’s founding story and shaky on their own. That’s not education. That’s a curriculum with a favorite.

صوّت مجلس التعليم في ولاية تكساس للتو على قرار يُلزم طلاب المدارس الحكومية بدراسة قصة تأسيس إسرائيل عام 1948 باعتبارها “الوطن التاريخي للشعب اليهودي”؛ وهي عبارة محددة وإلزامية أُدرجت في المنهج الدراسي بقرار اتخذه -بأغلبية 8 أصوات مقابل 4- أشخاصٌ لن يلتقي بهم معظم هؤلاء الطلاب أبداً.
والأمر المثير للدهشة هو أن الولاية ذاتها -التي لا تزال تشهد جدلاً محتدماً حول تدريس التاريخ الحقيقي للعبودية، والتي سارعت إلى إدخال منهج دراسي عن الكتاب المقدس إلى المدارس الحكومية- أظهرت إجماعاً وحماساً لفرض هذا الموضوع تحديداً. إنه لأمر مثير للسخرية كيف يُوصف بعض التاريخ بأنه “مثير للجدل أكثر من اللازم”، بينما يُفرض تاريخ آخر بقوة القانون وبكل جدية وثبات.
سينشأ أطفال تكساس وهم على يقين تام بقصة تأسيس دولة أخرى، بينما تكون معرفتهم بتاريخ بلادهم مهزوزة وغير واضحة. هذا ليس تعليماً؛ بل هو منهج دراسي ينحاز لطرف مفضل.
