Historic Beirut Districts Damaged as Israeli Strikes Hit Lebanon
March 9, 2026
Over the weekend, Israeli airstrikes struck multiple locations across Lebanon including central Beirut and the southern suburbs in one of the most significant escalations since the war with Hezbollah reignited.
On March 8, an Israeli strike hit a building inside the Ramada hotel complex in Beirut’s Raouche district, marking one of the rare direct attacks in the capital’s central area during this phase of the war. The strike killed at least four people and injured several others, including civilians, according to Lebanese officials.
Israel said the attack was a “precision strike” targeting senior Iranian Quds Force commanders who it claims were coordinating operations against Israel from Lebanon.
But the strike sent shockwaves through the city.
The blast tore through the building near Beirut’s iconic Raouche coastline and Pigeon Rocks, an area known for hotels, homes, and tourists. Residents reported windows shattering, debris raining into the streets, and panic spreading through surrounding neighborhoods.
At the same time, Israeli airstrikes continued across southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, areas where Hezbollah has strong influence. Israeli forces said the targets included Hezbollah infrastructure, drone warehouses, and command facilities.
What once stood as one of the Mediterranean’s most historic and vibrant capitals is now again witnessing explosions, evacuations, and rising smoke above its skyline.
ENOUGH.
