“Iran Has Done Nothing Wrong” — Abbas Araghchi Slams U.S. Threats, Calls for Global Action
April 16, 2026
Following President Trump’s bone-chilling Truth Social post on April 7 declaring “a whole civilization will die tonight”, a threat to permanently wipe Iran and its 90 million people off the map. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dropped the hammer at an Istanbul conference.
Araghchi didn’t ask for help. He issued a final warning. He made it clear that while the international community has sat back and watched the U.S. shred every law and treaty, Iran is done trying to prove its peaceful intentions to a bully. “We will certainly defend our interests. We will certainly defend our territorial integrity, our sovereignty, and our people,” Araghchi stated, standing firm against the U.S. ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 PM.
Araghchi’s message was a slap in the face to the West: “Iran has done nothing wrong.” He reminded the room that Iran negotiated in good faith for years, only for Trump to return and start a war of erasure. If the U.S. wants to burn a 5,000-year-old civilization to the ground, Iran won’t be going down without a fight that will set the entire world on fire.

Interviewer: Mr. Minister, the US president, Donald Trump, warned that Iran must now make peace. Otherwise the future attacks, he says, would be far greater and much easier. So how is Tehran responding to death threats from Washington? Thank you.
Abbas Araghchi: I think it’s not up to Iran to respond to that. The whole international community should respond of such a clear threat against the United Nations Charter. Iran has done nothing wrong. We do not understand why Iran should be attacked for a false accusation that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. It’s now more than 20 years that we are trying to prove that our peaceful nuclear program is in fact peaceful and would remain peaceful. We negotiated for a long time with the so-called P5 plus one, and we came to a deal which the whole world celebrated as an achievement of diplomacy. And then it was the US withdrew from that deal and reimposed the sanctions and restarted their threats. Again, we were negotiating with the same administration. Then all of a sudden they decided to attack us, first by Israelis, then by themselves, and now they are threatening us with more attacks. So it’s not up to Iran, but it’s up to the international community to condemn this, to prevent this. Otherwise, there would be nothing left for the international law, for the security, at the vote level. The Security Council should play its role, should play its responsibility to condemn and prevent this kind of threats. We will certainly defend our interests. We will certainly defend our editorial integrity, our sovereignty, and our people. And I’m so glad that our people now fully understand what injustice they are doing against the Iranian people. They are united and in solidarity with the government, and we stand firm against any aggression.
