Lebanese PM Rejects “Surrender” Narrative, Condemns Israel’s Scorched-Earth Policy | Nawaf Salam Statement

In one of his strongest statements since the latest escalation, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned what he described as Israel’s scorched-earth campaign across Lebanon, accusing it of targeting not only military sites, but entire communities, infrastructure, cultural landmarks and the very memory of the country itself.
Homes reduced to rubble.
Neighbourhoods erased.
Families displaced again and again.
Historical and archaeological sites damaged.
And entire towns forced to live under the constant threat of bombardment.
Salam warned that these policies will not bring Israel security or stability. Instead, he said, they are deepening the divide between the Lebanese and Israeli peoples and leaving wounds that will endure for generations.
Addressing criticism of ongoing negotiations, the Prime Minister was clear:
“Are negotiations guaranteed to succeed? Certainly not.”
“But they are the least costly path for our country and our people.”
At a time when Lebanon faces one of the most difficult chapters in its modern history, Salam insisted that diplomacy is not weakness and that pursuing a ceasefire, a full withdrawal, the release of prisoners and the return of displaced families remains a national priority.
The destruction of Lebanon cannot be normalised.
The displacement of civilians cannot be justified.
And peace cannot be built on the ruins of entire communities.
