He’s running on cutting ties with Israel, “not just our military, but all of the aid as well.” And one of his campaign’s main priorities is making Americans ask why they’re paying for it.
Then came a road encounter in Mequon. The driver’s bumper sticker had an Israeli flag and a message against Hamas. Arndt yelled at him, followed into a gas station, and the other driver filmed it. Arndt was arrested for disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancer.
His answer: he was criticizing Israel and its government, not Jewish people. MintPress says that’s all he did, and that he was reacting to a political message displayed on someone’s car.
Here’s the question that should worry everyone, whatever you think of how he said it: when a candidate’s anger at a foreign government can bring a hate crime enhancer, who decides where criticism of a state ends?
