Boycott Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? Korean Group Says Game Is “Manufacturing Consent” for War

BOYCOTT CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 4
On October 23, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 comes out. Its campaign is built around a North Korean invasion of South Korea, and it puts millions of players in the role of fighting it.
Nodutdol says that’s not entertainment, it’s “manufacturing consent” for war. In their words, Call of Duty is “a weapon of imperialist propaganda,” designed to dehumanize Koreans in the north and make players comfortable with the next war on the peninsula.
Their case rests on history. They say the US dropped more than 600,000 tons of bombs on Korea in the war of the 1950s, destroyed the vast majority of buildings and infrastructure in the north, and killed civilians at No Gun Ri, most of them women and children. They point to what they say is a war that never ended: divided families, mandatory conscription for South Korean men, and 274 days of US-South Korea military drills in 2025 alone.
They also tie the franchise to real-world violence, noting that families of Uvalde victims are suing Activision, Meta and gun maker Daniel Defense, and that the Pentagon has long helped shape how games and films portray US wars.
Their message: “Koreans are not your enemies. We survived a genocide and refuse to be erased again.”
Don’t play the game. Fight the war machine.
U.S. OUT OF KOREA!
