Entrepreneur Lennie Boy Celebrates Albania’s “Flamingo Revolution” and Says Peace Is How It Wins
October 21, 2026
ALBANIA STOOD UP, AND IT’S STILL STANDING
For more than 100 days, ordinary Albanians have shown up. Night after night. Tens of thousands in Tirana, high school students marching to bring more young people in, and Albanians from the diaspora rallying in cities abroad, some flying home to join in.
It started with a wetland. On May 30, environmental activists tried to stop construction linked to a luxury resort backed by Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, near the Vjosa-Narta lagoon, one of the Mediterranean’s most important protected coastal ecosystems and a home for flamingos. That’s how it became the Flamingo Revolution.
Then people started asking bigger questions. Who decides what happens to Albania’s coast? Why was a law changed to fast-track the project? Investigators at OCCRP reported that the project’s ownership was hidden behind a chain of offshore shell companies. Protesters answered with a slogan that says it all: “Albania is not for sale.”
They’ve been charged, blocked and pushed back, and they keep coming. They carry flamingo cutouts, chant for transparency and accountability, and refuse to be talked out of it.
That’s what courage looks like: showing up every day for something bigger than yourself. Lennie believes peace is how a movement like this wins, and the people of Albania are proving it, one evening at a time.
Albania hasn’t backed down. The rest of us should be learning from them.
