U.S. IN CRISIS STATE TROOPERS MOBILISED AS PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS SPREAD ACROSS ACROSS AMERICA
25/04/2024United States authorities in various states have deployed state troopers, police and security to control the tens of thousands of protesters that have mobilised on across university campuses across the country to demonstrate against the ongoing genocide being committed in Gaza and the complicity of their institutions and government in partnering with the Zionist apartheid Israeli regime.
Across the country, police stormed college campuses, carrying out hundreds of arrests. At New York University, cops clad in riot gear arrested over 100 students and faculty members, beating protesters and using pepper spray. At Yale University, 47 students were arrested. At California Poly Humboldt, riot police stormed into a university building and arrested students, and another nine students were arrested at the University of Minnesota.
Student leaders at Columbia said university administrators had threatened to call in the National Guard to suppress the protest, raising the prospect of a repeat of the Kent State massacre of May 4, 1970. In that incident, four Ohio college students were killed by the Ohio National Guard during a protest against the Vietnam War.
Additionally, Columbia announced that classes would be taught remotely for the rest of the semester.
Asked by a reporter, “What’s your message to the protesters?”, President Joe Biden replied, “I condemn the antisemitic protests.”
