HEZBOLLAH RETALIATORY ATTACK DEEPEST YET AGAINST ISRAEL
25/04/2024Hezbollah said yesterday it had launched a drone attack against Israeli military bases north of the city of Acre, in its deepest strike into Israeli territory since the Gaza war began.
Hezbollah said it had acted in retaliation for an earlier Israeli attack killing one of its fighters. The group published what appeared to be a satellite photo, with the location of the strike symbolized by a flash with a red circle around it that sat halfway between Acre and Nahariyya to the north.
In an attempt to downplay the attack, the Israeli military said it had no knowledge of any of its facilities being hit, but said that it intercepted two “aerial targets” off Israel’s northern coast.
Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported power outages in Margaliot and Kiryat Shmona due to rockets launched from Lebanon.
Despite denying the attack by Hezbollah, the IDF said fighter jets hit military targets in Ayta ash Shab and Blida and in the area of Markaba in southern Lebanon – IN RETALIATION.

Zena Khodr: Yes, very much an active front line, the Lebanon Israel border. In the past hour, Israel carried out at least 14 airstrikes, targeting what it says are Hezbollah positions in two front line villages, the villages of Aita Al-Shaab and Ramyah. So at least 14 airstrikes strikes now. This comes after a series of attacks by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, targeting Israeli military positions. And yesterday, Hezbollah targeting the deepest inside Israeli territory north of Akka. That’s approximately 15 kilometers from the border. In its statement, Hezbollah said that that attack was in retaliation for the targeted killing of one of its members, an engineer in Hezbollah’s air defense unit. So this was Hezbollah giving Israel a message that there could be further escalation if these targeted assassinations continue. But what we’ve seen in recent weeks and months is that Israel really taking out and eliminating Hezbollah fighters, field commanders, its infrastructure along the border. Hezbollah, in turn, continuing to target Israeli military positions. So this really is a part of a pattern of sporadic escalation that has still not led to a wider war or a bigger war. Most of the targets are military. But yesterday, two Lebanese civilians were killed, a woman and her child. Nearly 70 civilians have been killed. But like I mentioned, this is still very much confined to the border and confined to military targets. We toured the border region yesterday with U.N. peacekeepers, along with the Lebanese army, to see the cost of this conflict.
